Really Cool Comic Moment - Jordan Elliot's Wink

I, like most comic readers, am a fan of Alan Moore's classic story "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" that capped out the "pre-reboot" Superman era with a sweeping "final" story bringing all of Superman's plots to one grand conclusion.

The story really has a LOT of really cool moments, but since I had to narrow it down, I chose the ending, which had Superman "stripped" of his powers and married to Lois Lane as Jordan Elliot.

The wink was to the readers that Jordan was not fully ready to resign himself to the mild-mannered life, and might still have the powers to make that a reality.

A classic ending to a classic story.

Best thing about "Whatever happened..." is that all about the process, not the shock. Like the best stories from JMS, this Alan Moore story starting telling: "It ends with a wink". But how you get to that wink is that makes worth reading...

I don't have the book in front of me, but it seems odd that Supes would take a fake name based on his father's Kryptonian name, rather than caling himself "Calivin Elliot" or some such.

Still, it's a great story, and a great capper to the mythos of the Silver Age Superman.
