Damn, that's a tough one.

I've never been a big fan of Superman, I like him on TV but the comics have baggage that I have trouble getting past (the guy's older than my oldest living relative, it's bound to happne :) )

I'm going to have to go, overall, to Supreme. Reading Alan Moore's run on the character made me understand how people could love a character like that. In some ways that owes more to the writer in that period than to the origins or continued success, but Supreme was good, clean, powerful stuff.

On the other hand, I do like Apollo as the ultimate expression of sun-powered superhuman. Extreme in all ways when compared to his predecessor, he still works on the amped up level of the Authority.

i say apollo. he's got a lot of superman's attributes, but none of his doucheyness. hyperion is too much of a one-dimensional rip-off, and, to be fair, i don't really know much about majestic or ultraman...

Let's not discount Hyperion. He was always a Marvel ripoff, until JMS got his hands on him in Squadron Supreme.

Supreme? He blows. For crying out loud, he was a Liefeld character. Alan Moore is a god and can make any concept great so that doesn't count. Supreme is only good for mocking conversations revolving around questions like "Could Penultimate beat Supreme?"

I have no idea who Ultraman is. Isn't he the DC evil Superman?

Apollo? He's no Midnighter, who was able to overcome his origin and become a real character. Apollo is just an homage.

What about Miracleman? Or was he a Shazam homage?
