Cover Theme Day!

Jim Gordon on Batman/Detective Comics covers (plus one Shadow of the Bat)!!!!!

Isn't it funny that Gordon didn't appear on a cover until 1969, and when he finally DID, he appeared in back-to-back issues!!!

And then, right after, he made his Detective cover debut...

Okay, so that's not MUCH of a debut...hehe.

Then he showed up in support of his daughter a bunch of years later...

He couldn't miss Joker's birthday party!!

OK, this has absolutely NOTHING to do with Commissioner Gordon's cover appearances, but...

...can I just say how much cooler Batman looks with the yellow-and-black chest oval symbol than he does nowadays with just the black bat on the chest? Because if I can, I will say that the yellow-and-black symbol is a ZILLION times cooler. I mean, is this even a debatable point?

You missed my three favorite Gordon cover apperances, all from a single storyline in 1975 – Detective numbers #444, 445 and 448.

The image of Gordon shooting Batman in the back ha stuck in my mind since I was ten. Beautiful, dramatic work from the late, great Jim Aparo.

Damn, I miss Commissioner Gordon. Retirement is retirement, though, and I can't see them smoothly reinstating him using anything short of a retcon at this point.

And Chris, though I'll no doubt be pilloried for saying so, I actually liked the "all black" Batman costume best, associated though it was with some pretty awful stories. That one included the yellow chest oval, though, didn't it?
